Nazaré, my hometown, has been a fisherman’s old village full of soul, a place where everyone used to know everyone, but during the last few years it has been a victim of a tourism boom because of the mythic giant wave and with that a fragmentation of Nazaré’s soul.

It’s really sad to see the old village losing its Fishermans houses to be giant buildings of apartments, and urban projects that are destroying old places full of history and culture just because it’s safer for the masses. The people from Nazaré can’t live there anymore because it’s impossible to afford it, we think that in 10 years there will be no longer “Nazarenos” in Nazaré, and with it, it’s history and culture will be gone.

Last winter I started shooting some places and people that still have a bit of what I remember from my beloved hometown when I was a kid. They are tiny fragments and I just regret I didn’t start it sooner.

Will try with all my strength to make this public and visible to everyone that is visiting Nazaré. So they can enjoy and see that Nazaré is more than a wave, Nazaré should be History.
